Geography

In Geography we study locations, places and both human and physical geography.

Geography at our school is taught as a discrete subject, meets the requirements of the National Curriculum, and is sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on prior learning. Geography begins in our school environment, before slowly expanding to our local area of Eastfield and Scarborough. Once pupils have a good understanding of their local area, we extend their knowledge to include the UK, Europe and other international countries.

Children develop skills in geographical fieldwork, mapping and map reading. They learn how to present data and information, using their knowledge to explain their work. Children explore Geography in Early Years as part of Knowledge and Understanding of the World.  Through Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, children study three units of Geography each year.

We utilise the Ark scheme of work to support our intent and implementation. It supports effective teaching and learning through the provision of high-quality resources, including medium-term planning and subject knowledge enhancement.
