Music

Music is a creative subject but can also be a demanding and highly academic subject. It plays an important part in helping children to feel part of the community. As such, Music plays an important role in the day-to-day life of the school.

At our school, Music is taught as a discrete subject, meets the requirements of the National Curriculum and is sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on prior learning. We use KAPOW to sequence and structure our music curriculum. We focus on developing the skills, knowledge and understanding that children need in order to become confident performers, composers, and listeners. Our curriculum introduces children to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching children to respect and appreciate the music of all traditions and communities. They develop an understanding of the history and cultural context of the music that they listen to and learn how music can be written down.
