Vision and Values

Our Vision:

At Braeburn Primary and Nursery Academy, children are our number one priority for whom we strive to deliver high quality teaching and learning whilst at the same time providing rich, exciting and enjoyable learning experiences.  Everything we do as a school is to ensure that the children achieve their very best. We are extremely aware that children get one chance of a memorable education and it is our aim to ensure that they all reach for the highest levels of personal achievement and development.

We want every child to be successful; to reach for success from the very first day they join us and throughout their school lives so that when they leave us, they have a love of learning firmly embedded and a thirst for continually developing their knowledge and skills.

Our Aims – The Heart of Braeburn:

We aim to give all children the best possible opportunities to grow and develop as people in their own right and at their own pace.

We hope to achieve this through our school expectations, which are at the heart of our school:

  • A school that has fundamental expectations of High Energy, Active listening, Respect and Teamwork
  • A school where everyone feels cared for, listened to, valued and respected.
  • A school with a happy, nurturing, safe environment where everyone enjoys learning and working together.
  • An ethos which celebrates a child’s success , not just academic achievement but personal and social achievement.

Our Core Values:

Our school  community is built on the foundations of Respect, Self Belief, Kindness and Honesty.

At Braeburn we show Respect for each other and for our environment.

Respectful relationships are promoted in all areas of school life and with all members of our school community. Good manners and polite, respectful behaviour is celebrated. We promote kindness and friendship which is demonstrated by both children and adults. We seek to develop respect for our environment through our behaviours and our  curriculum.

Being respectful means you act in a way that shows care for how your actions may impact others. We can show respect for people, places, and belongings. For example:

  • Using kind or polite words even at times when this is problematic.
  • Using good manners for example, waiting your turn, saying please and thank you
  • Accepting different opinions but being able to voice your thoughts of  disagreeing with kind words
  • Being careful not to damage resources or our immediate environment.
  • Using a quiet voice or calm behaviour in public places
  • Sharing resources fairly and being considerate of others needs and wants

“When you practice gratefulness, there is a sense of respect towards others” – Dalai Lama

At Braeburn we aim to develop our self-belief and recognise that anything is possible if you continue to try.

We believe that high self-esteem, self-confidence and happiness are central to our learning no matter who we are in school. Everyday is a new learning day and by having confidence in ourselves and our ability to do things successfully we will be able to thrive.

Through the school’s curriculum, we positively encourage the children to always believe in themselves, be strong, resilient and self- aware. When a child believes in themselves, they strive academically and this is the first secret to success. All staff promote and value self-belief.

“Believe you can and you’re almost there” – Theodore Roosevelt

  • Be proud of who you are
  • Believe in yourself and say “I can do it!”
  • Never say never even when things do not go as expected.
  • Making mistakes are powerful tools to succeed.
  • Try your very best at everything you do!
  • Try something new
  • Have a positive mind-set

At Braeburn we aim for everyone to show kindness to others.

Kindness is being selfless, caring, compassionate, and unconditionally thoughtful. Like love, it takes practice to understand and feel it. At Braeburn we promote the importance of  love and demonstrate this  through kind acts for example:

  • A smile
  • Using kind words and manners
  • Be polite and caring to others
  • Take turns and share
  • Play with others if they are lonely
  • Undertaking a kind gesture/deed

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” –  Aesop

At Braeburn we aim to be honest so that any problems are easily resolved.

Honesty is crucial to develop trust, respect and integrity. Telling the truth is the most important thing . All pupils and staff should want to be honest with one another, no matter how difficult this can be at times. Making mistakes is part of life. We are all humans and we aim to promote pupils to  be the most authentic versions of  themselves.

We will promote this by:

  • Having high expectations rooted in honest discussions.
  • All pupils and staff always tell the truth, never steal or cheat.
  • All pupils and staff not hiding the truth, being sincere.
  • All pupils and staff are able to share honestly how they feel.

“To make children capable of honesty is the beginning of education” – John Ruskin

As well as supporting our children to live out our school values, we also focus on Ebor’s values of Excellence, Belonging, Opportunities and Respect.
